Right Relationship

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011
“Ayni is a Quechua (aboriginal Peruvian) word for “Right Relationship”. It refers to cultivating a spiritual alignment with the world so that we are not always bumping up against the other beings in the world and creating chaos.

It is important to cultivate this Ayni not only within yourself, but also within your partnership. Being in right relationship with your partner can sometimes require difficult acts of courage, like returning phone calls and using civil language even when you are really angry. Like going to a healer or therapist for help in retooling your inner world. Like reading this book and doing the exercises in it. Like being willing to reveal to your partner what is truly alive inside your being. . The work of relationship is not easy, but is is simple. It is a process of continual excavation and polishing until one day you finally unearth the diamond inside you. The pressures of life create the diamond. Sometimes the struggles and difficulties in relationship cut the facets of the diamond. But eventually it is polished and ready, and you are at peace.”

Opening to Bliss

Moon in Aquarius — Expect the Unexpected

“When my heart is fully open, I feel loving and sexual at the same time. There is an openness and compassion that helps me expand my consciousness out all around me, not only to the universe of stars and planets above, but to the universe of people all around me. Others can feel this energy coming from me, drawing them in to my personal space for some inexplicable reason. An open heart makes us more receptive to love, more likely to find love and keep it flowing in our lives. Work to open your heart through practicing kindness and gratitude, as well as doing the practices in this chapter. Expanding his heart, the man discovers that an open heart is not to be feared, that his abilities as a lover expand, and that lovemaking becomes a powerful spiritual and emotional experience. Many men come to me in my private practice complaining of dissatisfying and empty sex lives. They instinctively know that there is something more to the whole thing, but they aren’t quite sure what it is. This opening of the heart is part of the key to that puzzle. A woman’s journey is almost the opposite of a man’s. In healing her heart, the woman finds herself opening more sexually, and becoming more willing to connect deeply with men. As she opens, she draws men to her like a magnet, and her experience of connection with them becomes more joyful and ecstatic. To experience these things, to shift the heart, requires patience, surrender, dedication, and unconditional love.”

Power Objects

Moon in Capricorn — Connect to the Earth

“Strong power objects come from the earth and the animals that walk upon it. On my altar are seed pods, leaves, rocks, feathers, and crystals. I use each of these objects for different purposes. A hawk feather reminds me of my commitment to soar above life’s obstacles, and to strive for clear perception. A rabbit’s foot recalls my awareness of the sensuality and softness of my being. A snake’s skin echoes my continual transforming, shedding old behaviors and beliefs through my tantra practice. Each of these objects is a gift from Spirit and must be treated with reverence. Any object that I collect from nature is always collected with permission from Spirit, with thanks, and with an offering of cornmeal, hair, water, or saliva. To ask permission, I simply go into a meditative state and ask the question, “Is it right for me to take this object from its natural home?” I pay attention to my first and immediate reaction when I ask this question. That reaction tells me all I need to know. When I give my offering, I do so with reverence, and with presence, bringing myself deeply into the moment and into a sense of gratitude to the plant or animal or land for the gift. When I have finished my time working with a power object, I return it to nature, or gift it to another human who will benefit from its energy. “

Moon in Capricorn — Get practical

Today I woke with a lovely feeling of everything just being exactly right in my relationship. It’s not often I get that feeling, and as I lay in my beloved’s arms slowly waking up, I felt my heart open with love and gratitude. Partly what I’m feeling is a “hangover” from our tantric practice a few days ago–only I would call it more of an afterglow than a hangover. Its amazing to me how this practice is so able to drop me deeply into a powerful connection with another person. Even with all I know, and all I’ve experienced, and all the ways I’ve changed over the years, there is still enormous power in simply DOING the practice.

Re-Awakening

Moon in Sagittarius — Do the Wild Thing!

Yesterday I reconnected with the reason I teach sacred sexuality. Like most of you, I had gotten busy with my life. My busy life was keeping me from making time to connect deeply with my beloved through shamanic tantra practice. Yesterday I recommitted myself to weekly practice with him. The opening I felt as we connected our breath, our spirits, and our bodies was so deep. It opened something up in me that has been dormant for a few years, a deep feeling place full of passion and fire. Once again I have woken the dragon inside me. Now let’s see if I can ride it, and possibly even learn to steer!

What is Integrity?

Thursday, July 7th, 2011
Moon in Libra — Focus on Relationships

“Integrity in my world is defined as having small spaces between what you say and what you do. In the search for a partner with integrity, I was led to cultivating integrity in myself. It is one of the great secrets of partnership that you cannot attract something from your partner that you do not have in yourself. Integrity is a tricky thing, and there have been times when I have felt that I was in integrity and then realized that I was deceiving myself. When I looked closer, I found that there were many ways that I had not shown up as promised in a relationship. “

The Four Agreements in Four Days

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011
A few days ago I co-taught a class with Rachel Moore on “The Four Agreements” for creatives, based on the book by Don Miguel Ruiz. As I prepared to teach the class, I realized that I wanted to really experience the essence of this book by spending a full day between now and then living each of the agreements.

The four agreements are:

  • Be Impeccable with your Word.
  • Don’t take Anything Personally.
  • Don’t make assumptions.
  • Always do your best.

Take out the Trash

Moon in Virgo — Clean up your Life!

“Moonbeams and Butterflies are not the full substance of love. Perhaps you have a fantasy that love is full of light and ecstasy. It can be. But for most of us there is also Rot and Decay that must be cleared away to make room for the light. Some common forms that this rot takes are Jealousy, Unrequited Love, Old relationship Patterns, Death of a partner, and Unresolved Breakups. It is important that these old wounds and patterns be healed and cleaned up. Without that trash detail, there is simply no space in your heart or your life for another person. How can someone get close to you when you are holding on to so much?”

It’s the Remedy

Moon in Virgo — Tidy up Your Life!

Healing myself with self love has been the rest remedy in my life for letting go of loving people who don’t love me back. It’s funny to have had so many years in my life when I have been having this experience and I see that it has taught me so much about being full just with who I am. I have learned through taking care of myself deeply that I am enough. That I deserve Love. That I can be happy whether there is a man in my life or not. Coming to this place of deep rest and acceptance about my life is a gift. Grounding myself in a daily set of activities and experiences that nourish my soul is the foundation of my self love practice. I make sure I get enough sleep, I take long baths, I sit by the pool on the weekends and soak up the sun. I play music and knit and read for pleasure. I give my attention to things that cultivate a sense of love and beauty in my heart. And through that attention an inner feeling of joy and beauty awakens. This is the thing that I want to be able to bring to a relationship anyhow, a lot of love already in my heart. I don’t want to come to a relationship needing anything from the other person. This sets me up for another one of those paradoxes where because I don’t NEED anything I am given EVERYTHING.
